2019 Outdoor Season Information
New Coach Hired for Extreme Jr VBC Outdoor Season 2019!
Julia Hanson grew up in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Julia was a multi-sport athlete participating in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Julia earned MVP in basketball on the JV squad as a freshman and said goodbye to the sport as she wanted to focus on club volleyball for the next three years. She continued with track and field in the spring, with her father coaching her to state three years in a row for discuss. In volleyball, Julia was a stand-out six-rotation outside with one season as a libero for Fort Atkinson High School. She earned Most Improved Player her first season and first-team All-Conference honors each of her final two seasons of high school. Julia moved to Springfield to pursue her volleyball career, earning a spot on Missouri State University's indoor volleyball team. Julia played for one season as a defensive specialist and serving specialist. Taking an opportunity with the outdoor Beach Program at MSU in the spring of 2017, Julia laid her indoor career to rest. In 2018, Julia appeared in all 17 MSU matches for the Beach Volleyball program. Julia played anywhere from the first to third seedings. Currently, Julia has been competing in the first and second seedings for Missouri State Beach. Julia will be running our Outdoor Program for Extreme Jr VBC this summer.
FAQS about Outdoor Season
You do not have to be a member of Extreme Jr VBC during indoor season to participate with us for outdoor season. Once your indoor season is over with your perspective club, the club director can sign a simple release form for you to play the outdoor season with us. This does not commit you to Extreme Jr VBC for any more than just the outdoor season, and it does not guarantee you a position for the following indoor season.
There are many rule differences, so here is the list in case you are curious:
Due to the rules about coaches/parents/officiating, outdoor club season is a much more relaxed, fun, stress-free way to play. It is a great way to get a good workout in while still improving your skills- ESPECIALLY in the areas of ball control, court awareness, vertical leap, and defense.
- Coach Julia Hanson is the coach who will be instructing during outdoor season 2017. Coach Julia is USAV Beach Impact certified and you can read more about all of our coaching staff on the "Coaching Staff" tab above. There are many rule differences, so here is the list in case you are curious:
- Coaches are not allowed to speak to players except on player initiated time outs. In fact, they are only allowed in the sand if they have a special certification. Coaches may celebrate during play, but that is pretty much it.
- Parents are not allowed to yell anything to players during matches, other than celebrating points. In fact, the courts are a good distance from the seating area, so it is almost impossible to yell at/for your child. No uncertified adult is allowed in the sand at any time.
- Players officiate their own matches as they play. There is no officiating crew- opponents must come to an agreement on each play. They keep score themselves as they play as well. Teams switch sides during each set (every 7 points).
- Tournament styles vary- some have matches to 15 points, some to 21 points, some to 25 points. Divisions are 12, 14, 16, and 18 yrs. If you daughter is 11, she would play in the 12s division; If she is 13, she'd play in the 14s division, etc.
- Double contacts on the first contact are not allowed unless the ball is hard-driven (attacked), and very strict guidelines for double contacts are used (so there is minimal overhead setting used). You cannot set a ball over the net unless it is originally to a teammate (and blown over accidentally) or if the ball is intentionally set into the opponent's court, the player must contact the ball with two hands above his/her shoulders and set it directly forward or directly backward with relation to his/her body.
- No open hand tips are allowed.
- It is legal to "lift" a first ball if it is hard-driven (attacked).
- There is no center line or violations of the center line. There are also no antennas, no rotational faults, and no penalties for accidentally serving out of order.
- Blocking counts as your first team contact (whereas it does not in indoor volleyball).
- Teams are of 2 people and the court dimensions are smaller. A different ball is used, but it is similar to the indoor one just a lower pressure. Net height is still the same as indoor.
